You can never be disconnected from the land.
It is you:
the food you ate today,
the air you breathed that was a plant’s exhalation,
the bacteria and other beings that turned your waste into weeds, which herbicides reduced to dust,
that swirled into a waterway and found its way into your mouth,
somehow
you will be earth always,
whether you feel it or not.
What will you do with your piece of land,
this body you call home?
Right now, there is a plant calling to you.
A mountain lives right near you. Do you know it’s names, old and new?
Have you ever reached out to an island with your mind, spirit or limbs?
Or considered the stones in the cement you stepped on today? Where were they before they came to be this new sedimentary solid?
